We present the results of calculations of theoretical absorption-line profiles and radial-velocity curves for optical components in X-ray binary systems. Tidal distortion of the optical star and X-ray heating by incident radiation from the relativistic object are taken into account. An emission component forms whose intensity varies with orbital phase in the absorption-line profile in the presence of significant X-ray heating. As a result, the width of the line decreases rather than increases at quadrature. The line profiles and equivalent widths and the radial-velocity curves depend substantially on the parameters of the binary systems. This provides the possibility of directly determining component masses and orbital inclinations from high-resolution spectroscopic observations of X-ray binary systems.  相似文献

We apply a population synthesis technique to study the formation and evolution of low-mass X-ray binaries with black holes, observed as X-ray novae, from hierarchical triple systems. A scenario is suggested in which an inner close binary system evolves into an X-ray system with a large mass ratio. The high rate of accretion onto the neutron star leads to a common envelope stage, which may result in the formation of a Thorne-Zytkow (TZ) object. During its evolution, the envelope of the TZ object expands, encompassing the third star. The recurrent common-envelope stage decreases the size of the orbit of the third star, leading to the formation of a lowmass X-ray nova with a black hole. The dynamical stability of triple systems automatically ensures that only lowmass X-ray novae form. We also consider the possible formation of an X-ray nova from a binary in the case of asymmetrical core collapse during a supernova explosion.  相似文献

We study the growth of the masses of neutron stars in binary systems due to the accumulation of mass from the optical donors accreted onto the neutron-star surface. Possible scenarios for this accretion are considered. The masses and magnetic-field strengths of radio pulsars derived using population-synthesis methods are compared to the observational data. The population-synthesis analysis indicates that a neutron star can increase its mass from the standard value of m x ? 1.35M to the Oppenheimer-Volkoff limit, m x ? 2.5M, via accretion from a companion.  相似文献

We interpret the observed radial-velocity curve of the optical star in the low-mass X-ray binary 2S 0921-630 using a Roche model, taking into account the X-ray heating of the optical star and screening of X-rays coming from the relativistic object by the accretion disk. Consequences of possible anisotropy of the X-ray radiation are considered. We obtain relations between the masses of the optical and compact (X-ray) components, m v and m x , for orbital inclinations i = 60°, 75°, and 90°. Including X-ray heating enabled us to reduce the compact object’s mass by ~0.5–1 M , compared to the case with no heating. Based on the K0III spectral type of the optical component (with a probable mass of m v ? 2.9 M ), we concluded that m x ? 2.45?2.55 M (for i = 75°?90°). If the K0III star has lost a substantial part of its mass as a result of mass exchange, as in the V404 Cyg and GRS 1905+105 systems, and its mass is m v ? 0.65?0.75 M , the compact object’s mass is close to the standard mass of a neutron star, m x ? 1.4 M (for i = 75°?90°). Thus, it is probable that the X-ray source in the 2S 0921-630 binary is an accreting neutron star.  相似文献

We describe the results of a statistical approach to analyzing the combined radial-velocity curves of X-ray binaries with OB supergiants in a Roche model, both with and without allowance for the anisotropy of the stellar wind. We present new mass estimates for the X-ray pulsars in the close binary systems Cen X-3, LMC X-4, SMC X-1, 4U 1538-52, and Vela X-1.  相似文献

Based on the available observational data on the diffuse X-ray emission from hot gas in virialized systems (the central regions of clusters of galaxies or the coronas of spherical galaxies) and the masses of the central objects in these systems (the central galaxies in clusters or massive compact objects—supermassive black holes—in the galactic nuclei), we show that the X-ray luminosity is proportional to the square of the mass of the central object. This is consistent with the dependence obtained earlier between X-ray luminosities of systems and the square of their optical luminosities (i.e., the luminosity of stars in these systems). The existence of such dependences for virialized systems on various scales may provide evidence that they are all formed by a single mechanism, such as hierarchical gravitational clustering. Although the times to achieve hydrostatic equilibrium between the gaseous and stellar components in systems on various scales differ, the relation between certain internal parameters of these systems may remain the same. This enables us to estimate certain parameters of virialized systems in terms of others, in particular, to estimate the masses of their central objects based on the diffuse X-ray luminosity of their coronas.  相似文献

The representative elementary volume (REV) is the premise of the continuous-media method of analysis, and the investigation of the REVs of fractured rock masses is a fundamental area of rock mechanics research. The existence of an REV can be determined based on a variety of physical parameters. This paper presents an analysis of the REV from the view of blockiness, which is defined as the percentage of the volume of isolated blocks formed by fractures in the total rock volume. Seventy-seven types of fractured rock mass models were developed based on 7 classes of fracture persistence and 11 classes of spacing that are suggested by the International Society for Rock Mechanics (ISRM) fracture classification. Rock blocks in each of the 77 types of fractured rock mass models were identified using GeneralBlock to determine the variation in blockiness with model domain sizes, which were changed from 2 to 20 times the fracture spacing. For each model domain size 9 random realizations were carried out to reduce the effects of randomness. The coefficient of variation (Cv) was then used to quantify the variability of the 9 random realizations. The fluctuation in blockiness with the variation in the scale of the model region was also investigated. In this way, the size of the REV in these models can be calculated using the average and the variance of the blockiness as indicators of the convergence. The blockiness of these fractured rock masses can be determined at the REV volume. The results indicate that of the 77 models, 76 REV sizes are between 2 and 20 times the fracture spacing. The fractured rock mass with a wide fracture spacing and very high persistence (WS2–VHP) has a REV size that exceeds 20 times the fracture spacing. Thus, the WS2–VHP model should be investigated further to validate this concept.  相似文献

The results of numerical studies of the evolution of a close binary system containing a black hole with a mass of ~3000M are presented. Such a black hole could form in the center of a sufficiently rich and massive globular cluster. The secondary could be a main-sequence star, giant, or degenerate dwarf that fills or nearly fills its Roche lobe. The numerical simulations of the evolution of such a system take into account the magnetic wind of the donor together with the wind induced by X-ray irradiation from the primary, the radiation of gravitational waves by the system, and the nuclear evolution of the donor. Mass transfer between the components is possible when the donor fills its Roche lobe, and also via the black hole’s capture of some material from the induced stellar wind. The computations show that the evolution of systems with solar-mass donors depends only weakly on the mass of the accretor. We conclude that the observed ultra-luminous X-ray sources (L X ? 1038 erg/s) in nearby galaxies could include accreting black holes with masses of 102?104M. Three scenarios for the formation of black holes with such masses in the cores of globular clusters are considered: the collapse of superstars with the corresponding masses, the accretion of gas by a black hole with a stellar initial mass (<100M), and the tidal accumulation of stellar black holes. We conclude that the tidal accumulation of stellar-mass black holes is the main scenario for the formation of intermediate-mass black holes (102?104M) in the cores of globular clusters.  相似文献

岩体抗剪强度参数的确定是进行岩体工程稳定性分析中最基本和最重要的,也是最困难的一项工作。由于室内和现场试验方法的局限性以及经验准则的人为性,快速、简易和较可靠确定岩体抗剪强度参数的原位测试手段一直是岩石工程界关注的热点。采用引进美国生产的岩石钻孔剪切仪,在实验室混凝土空心圆柱体和向家坝水电站坝基岩体中进行了尝试,取得了有益的试验成果。将主要从钻孔剪切仪的工作原理、数值模拟分析和工程应用等几方面对其进行全面的阐述和总结。试验成果和数值分析结果显示,岩石钻孔剪切仪是一种适用于软岩~中硬岩的原位试验设备,其试验成果总体钻孔剪切试验得到的c、 小于传统三轴和直剪试验成果,但钻孔剪切试验的 值在 <40?的范围内略低于传统三轴和直剪试验成,而钻孔剪切试验的c值较传统三轴和直剪试验的c 值降低较多,一般为25%~50%。  相似文献

Basing on the principle of the Boundary Element Method, the authors of this paper present two computational methods for the analysis of ground stress field of rock masses, namely, the Boundary Element Regression Method and the Boundary Direct Integral Method. If the stress values of certain points in the rock masses have been known, we can find the solution of the entire ground stress field using either of these two methods. In this paper, these two methods have been used in conducting practical engineering computations. A critical comparison is made of the results obtained using these two methods with those of Finite Element Regression Method and Photoelastic Model Experiment, and the results are all in agreement. This shows that the above two methods are both feasible for implementation and easy for operation.  相似文献

Low-divergence synchrotron-sourced X-rays enable a radiographic imaging scheme for full characterization of binary chemical reactions and characterization by type of more complex reactions, in situ, in diamond anvil cells (DAC). Spatially resolved reactants are induced to react by laser heating of their interface. The spatially intermediate products are observed through X-ray absorption contrast. Limits to the technique include the ability to maintain controlled experiment geometry during compression and the ability to resolve chemical differences between reactants and products by X-ray absorption. The ability to make in situ observations at experimental pressure and temperature obviates the problem with quenching techniques for capturing liquid compositions in experiments with dimensions smaller than the diffusion length during quenching time. Partially molten Fe-alloy systems, of poor quenchability, are examined at DAC pressures and temperatures for relevance to Earth's core constitution and evolution. Determinations of eutectic melting in Fe–FeS match known results. Of the probable light elements that may alloy with Fe in the Earth's liquid outer core, Fe–FeS experiments show only modest quenching problems, but C and Si alloy experiments are highly vulnerable to quenching artifacts. The observed reactivity of FeS, Fe3C, FeSi, and FeO(OH) with Fe in DAC makes the observed non-reactivity between Fe and FeO more significant, reducing the probability that oxygen alone is the major alloy in Earth's molten outer core.  相似文献

There has been much recent interest in the Distinct Element Method for analyzing soil and rock as a discontinuum composed of numerous individual deformable grains or blocks. The solution procedure for calculating element deformations relies on the superposition of element strain modes, where each strain mode is obtained by solving an independent dynamic equilibrium equation. It is shown here that this procedure sometimes applied incorrectly. For elements of arbitrary shape, the shear strain mode is not orthogonal to rotation and therefore cannot be superposed on rotation to give the true displaced shape and position.It is also shown that modal equations must be solved with respect to axes which translate and rotate with the element, and cannot be written with respect to fixed global coordinates as implemented in present distinct element codes.Finally it is shown that various alternative valid bases for modal decomposition can be derived from a single formulation and a number of examples are given for general element shapes.  相似文献

Acoustic and light detection and ranging are the recent methods used in hydrographical surveying. Depth values depending on X and Y horizontal coordinates are measured in both methods. While processing the hydrographical data, all data with different density are interpolated and modeled for determining the seafloor model using different interpolation techniques. In this study, effects of different surface modeling methods are investigated. Data obtained from single-beam echo sounder (SBES) are modeled using inverse distance, kriging, local polynomial, minimum curvature, moving average, nearest-neighbor, and Delaunay interpolation methods. Interpolation results are compared with the multibeam echo sounder data which were collected on the same area for determining the accuracy of modeling methods. Depending on the maximum total vertical uncertainty values in hydrographic survey standards, the best results were determined by using the kriging method. The Delaunay, minimum curvature, and inverse distance methods can be used for modeling the SBES data in shallow waters.  相似文献

根据揭普高速原状软土的室内固结试验结果和现场实测结果,对7种固结系数确定方法的原理、精度、使用简便性、优缺点等进行了比较研究。研究结果表明,三点法和时间平方根法是较好的方法,但采用时间平方根法时其固结试验应采用较大的加载比。研究还发现,同一场地单元、同类软土、不同土样的固结系数离散性较大。实际工程中,同一单元地段应进行多组固结试验计算固结系数,剔除较高值者,取余下均值为该地段的固结系数。  相似文献
