Ambient air pollution, particularly in the urban environment of developing countries, has turned out to be a major health risk factor. We explore the compounded impact of age sensitivity, exposure, poverty, co-morbidity, etc., along with composite air pollution in determining morbidity and health burden of people in Lucknow, India. This cross-sectional study is confined to analyse respiratory health status across different socio-economic and geographic locations using n = 140 in-depth questionnaire method. We used mean daily ambient air pollution data of PM10, PM2.5, SO2, and NO2 for the 2008–2018 period. We used the ecological model framework to assess the risk at different hierarchical levels and compounded severity on a spatial scale. We also used Logistic regression model with log odds and odds ratio to analyze the association of risks outcomes with composite air pollution scores calculated using the principal component analysis method. There is a strong association of location-specific respiratory disease prevalence with an overall 32 percent prevalence. The prevalence of ecological model 1 (individual domain) is 4.3 percent, while ecological model 2 (community domain) has the highest prevalence at 32.4 percent. The logistic regression model shows that respiratory disease load is positively associated with age sensitivity (P < .001) and composite pollution level (P < .001). For another model with suffocation as the outcome variable, composite pollution level (P < .001) and exposure (P < .001) are positively associated. Optimum interventions are required at Ecological models 1, 2, and 3 levels for better respiratory health outcomes.

Computation of solitary waves during propagation and runup on a slope   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A numerical time-simulation algorithm for analysing highly nonlinear solitary waves interacting with plane gentle and steep slopes is described by employing a mixed Eulerian–Lagrangian method. The full nonlinear free surface conditions are considered here in a Lagrangian frame of reference without any analytical approximations, and thus the method is valid for very steep waves including overturning. It is found that the runup height is crucially dependent on the wave steepness and the slope of the plane. Pressures and forces exerted on impermeable walls of different inclinations (slopes) by progressive shallow water solitary waves are studied. Strong nonlinear features in the form of pronounced double peaks are visible in the time history of pressure and force signals with increasing heights of the oncoming solitary waves. The effect of nonlinearity is less pronounced as the inclination of the wall decreases with respect to the bottom surface.  相似文献

The nonlinear diffraction of 2D single and twin hulls are studied by employing a mixed Eulerian–Lagrangian model based on a higher-order cubic-spline boundary element solver. Two types of simulations are considered. In the first, waves are generated by a piston-type wave-maker in a rectangular tank and in the second case a nonlinear incident wave is assumed to exist in the tank in which the body is introduced. For the application of this model, the full nonlinear diffraction problem is recast in terms of a perturbation wave-field. Computations are performed for rectangular and triangular hull geometries. Computed results show significant nonlinearities, particularly in the heave force. The twin hull results show the influence of wave interference on the diffraction forces. This interference influences the surge force considerably, but heave force is less affected.  相似文献

Spatial and temporal variations in the geochemistry of an extrusive basaltic section of Deccan traps record progressive changes in mantle melting and crustal filtration and are relevant to understand continental flood basalt (CFB) magmatism. In the present work we have carried out detailed field, petrographic, density and magnetic susceptibility, and geochemical investigations on a small, semi-continuous extrusive section in the eastern Deccan Volcanic Province (DVP) to understand the role of shallow magma chambers in CFB magmatism. Four formations, Ajanta, Chikhli, Buldhana and Karanja crop out in the Gangakhed–Ambajogai area with increasing elevation. Our studies indicate that: (1) the Karanja Formation represents a major magma addition, as indicated by abrupt change in texture, increases in MgO, CaO, Ni, Cr, and Sr, and drastic decreases in Al2O3, Na2O, K2O, Rb, Ba, REE, bulk-rock density and magnetic susceptibility; (2) assimilation fractional crystallization, crystal-laden magmas, and accessory cumulus phases influence the trace element chemistry of Deccan basalts; (3) the predicted cumulate sequence of olivine gabbro–leucogabbro–oxide-apatite gabbro is supported by the observed layered series in a shallow magma chamber within the DVP; (4) the initial magma was saturated with olivine, plagioclase, and augite, and final the pressure of equilibration for the Gangakhed–Ambajogai section basalts is ~2 kbar (~6 km depth); (5) petrophysical parameters act as proxies for magmatic processes; (6) a small layer of oxide-rich basalts may represent the latest erupted pulse in a given magmatic cycle in the DVP; (7) parental basalts to some of the red boles, considered as formation boundaries, might represent small degree partial melts of the mantle; (8) SW Deccan basaltic-types continue into the eastern DVP; and (9) in addition to the magma chamber processes, dynamic melting of the mantle may have controlled DVP geochemistry. The present study underscores the importance of mapping specific stratigraphic intervals in limited areas to understand mantle and magma chamber processes relevant to CFB magmatism.  相似文献

A study of nonlinear heave radiation of two-dimensional single and double hulls has been carried out in the time domain. The problem is analyzed by means of a fully nonlinear mathematical model, referred to as the mixed Eulerian–Lagrangian (MEL) model, which is based on an integral relation formulation coupled with time-integration of the nonlinear free-surface boundary conditions. The integral equation solver is based on a cubic-spline boundary-element scheme in which both potential and velocity continuity conditions can be enforced through the intersection points. The body undergoes periodic forced heave oscillation. By implementing effective wave-absorbing beaches at the two ends of the rectangular numerical tank, long-term steady-state force-histories could be achieved consistently in all computations. Results in terms of radiation forces for rectangular and triangular single- and twin-hull geometries are presented and discussed. Linear hydrodynamic forces in terms of added-mass and damping are validated for the rectangular hull. The Fourier-analyzed results reveal the extent of nonlinear (higher-order) components in the force-signals over different parameters which include the amplitudes of oscillation, hull-spacing for the twin-hulls and water depth.  相似文献

The lower Varuna River basin in Varanasi district situated in the central Ganga plain is a highly productive agricultural area, and is also one of the fast growing urban areas in India. The agricultural and urbanization activities have a lot of impact on the groundwater quality of the study area. The river basin is underlain by Quaternary alluvial sediments consisting of clay, silt, sand and gravel of various grades. The hydrogeochemical study was undertaken by randomly collecting 75 groundwater samples from dug wells and hand pumps covering the entire basin in order to understand the sources of dissolved ions, and to assess the chemical quality of the groundwater through analysis of major ions. Based on the total dissolved solids, two groundwater samples are considered unsuitable for drinking purpose, but all samples are useful for irrigation. Graphical treatment of major ion chemistry by Piper diagram helps in identifying hydro-geochemical facies of groundwaters and the dominant hydrochemical facies is Ca-Mg-HCO3 with appreciable percentage of the water having mixed facies. As per Wilcox’s diagram and US Salinity laboratory classification, most of the groundwater samples are suitable for irrigation except two samples (No’s 30 and 68) which are unsuitable due to the presence of high salinity and medium sodium hazard. Irrigation waters classified based on residual sodium carbonate, have revealed that all groundwaters are in general safe for irrigation except one sample (No. 27), which needs treatment before use. Permeability index indicates that the groundwater samples are suitable for irrigation purpose. Although the general quality of groundwater of the lower Varuna River basin is suitable for irrigation purpose, fifty seven percent of the samples are found having nitrate content more than permissible limit (>45 mg/l) which is not good for human consumption. Application of N-Fertilizers on agricultural land as crop nutrients along the Varuna River course may be responsible for nitrate pollution in the groundwater due to leaching by applied irrigation water. The other potential sources of high nitrate concentration in extreme northern, southern and southwestern parts of study area are poor sewerage and drainage facilities, leakage of human excreta from very old septic tanks, and sanitary landfills. The high fluoride contamination (>1.5 mg/l) in some of the samples may be due to the dissolution of micaceous content in the alluvium. Nitrate and fluoride contamination of groundwater is a serious problem for its domestic use. Hence an immediate protective measure must be put into action in the study area.  相似文献

Skarn rocks occur at the contact between calcite-bearing dolomitic marbles and granitoids (massive varieties with pegmatites) in close spatial association with the mica schist-hosted Proterozoic Pb–Cu–Ag sulfide deposits at Sargipali, Sundergarh District, Eastern India. The exoskarn (pyroxene–garnet) of variable width (1 to 30 m) occurs in marble proximal to the granitic intrusion, and endoskarn (pyroxene–epidote) is variably developed (< 1 to 10 m). Molybdenum-free scheelite with minor pyrrhotite (0.2%) is found only in late garnet–clinopyroxene exoskarn assemblages.  相似文献

With the rapid growth of the Internet, the copyright protection problem occurs frequently, and unauthorized copying and distributing of geospatial data threaten the investments of data producers. Digital watermarking is a possible solution to solve this issue. However, watermarking causes modifications in the original data resulting in distortion and affects accuracy, which is very important to geospatial vector data. This article provides distortion assessment of watermarked geospatial data using wavelet-based invisible watermarking. Eight wavelets at different wavelet decomposition levels are used for accuracy evaluation with the help of error measures such as maximum error and mean square error. Normalized correlation is used as a similarity index between original and extracted watermark. It is observed that the increase in the strength of embedding increases visual degradation. Haar wavelet outperforms the other wavelets, and the third wavelet decomposition level is proved to be optimal level for watermarking.  相似文献
