Boreas, Vol. 41, pp. 31–41. 10.1111/j.1502‐3885.2011.00221.x. ISSN 0300‐9483. Thick, relatively homogeneous basal tills exposed in the drumlins and flutes of the Weedsport drumlin and flute field in New York State exhibit anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) and pebble fabrics that are consistently oriented parallel to the streamlined bedforms. The pebble fabrics and AMS fabrics are concordant. In this study, six drumlins and five flutes were sampled. Thermally induced, incremental reduction of isothermal remanent magnetization indicates that AMS is caused by primarily elongate maghaemite grains. The orientations of principal axes of maximum susceptibility (k1) are generally parallel to pebble long‐axis orientations, and tend to plunge mildly up‐glacier. Fabric directions are generally parallel to drumlin long‐axis orientations, but deviate by 12°–23° from flute directions. Fabrics of the flutes are stronger and more unidirectional than those of the drumlins. These results support the use of AMS as a fast and objective method for characterizing fabrics in tills, and suggest hypotheses about basal processes linked to glacially streamlined landforms.  相似文献

发泡颗粒混合轻量土是轻量土中的一种,根据需要,可以通过调整发泡颗粒和土的比例来控制混合土的物理、力学性质。本文介绍了发泡颗粒混合轻量土在高速公路桥梁上的另一应用新技术。为了尽量减小隧道开挖的弃碴对桥墩产生的不利影响,在桥墩周围填筑发泡颗粒混合轻量土,以保持原设计桥梁的结构、强度和变形性能。原位试验结果表明,发泡颗粒混合轻量土易于变形,且可极大地减小土的静止土压力,因而可以减小隧道弃碴对桥墩的影响。它作为缓冲材料的应用是成功的,其效果明显。  相似文献

The results of a calcareous nannofossil biostratigraphic investigation of the North Fork Cottonwood Creek section of the Budden Canyon Formation (BCF; Hauterivian–Turonian) in northern California are summarized using the Boreal – cosmopolitan Boreal Nannofossil Biostratigraphy (BC) – Upper Cretaceous Nannofossil Biostratigraphy (UC) nannofossil zonal schemes of Bown et al. and Burnett et al. Sixteen intervals, ranging from the BC15 to UC8 zones, were established in the section. Combined biostratigraphic and magnetostratigraphic studies suggest a Hauterivian to mid‐Turonian age for the studied sequence. The Hauterivian–Barremian, Barremian–Aptian, Aptian–Albian, Albian–Cenomanian, and Cenomanian–Turonian stage boundaries were delineated near the top of the Ogo Member, below the Huling Sandstone Member, within the upper Chickabally Member, in the upper portion of the Bald Hills Member and within the Gas Point Member, respectively. Unconformities probably exist at the base of the Huling Sandstone Member and the upper part of the upper Chickabally Member. The nannofossil assemblage in the North Fork Cottonwood Creek suggests that the study area was under the influence of cold‐water conditions during the Barremian to Lower Aptian interval, shifting to tropical/warm‐water conditions during the Albian to Turonian interval as a result of the mid‐Cretaceous global warming. Although oceanic anoxic events have not yet been reported in the BCF, preliminary total organic carbon, along with nannofossil data, suggest the presence of the global Cenomanian–Turonian boundary oceanic anoxic event 2.  相似文献

Four reference soils have been prepared and certified through the cooperation of Energy, Mines and Resources Canada and Agriculture Canada. Their origin and details of preparation and characterization are presented. Thirty-six laboratories participated in the international certification program by providing approximately 16000 results for 65 elements. One or more of the reference soils were certified for 18 elements and preliminary data were obtained for another 47.  相似文献

Abstract— Clementine UV/VIS multi‐spectral data were used to map mare deposits in the eastern lunar nearside region (Mare Tranquillitatis, Mare Fecunditatis, Mare Serenitatis, Mare Crisium, Mare Nectaris) to understand the volcanic history of this region. An array of Clementine and Clementine‐derived data were used to classify mare basalts; these include: 750 nm albedo, UV/VIS ratio, 1 μm absorption signatures, and Clementine derived FeO and TiO2 contents. We have successfully identified several new geological units and have determined their spectral characteristics. For example, the relatively younger low‐Ti basalts were recognized in the eastern part of Mare Tranquillitatis. The central low‐Ti basalts in Mare Serenitatis, which had been classed as mISP, were divided into 2 groups. In Mare Nectaris, 2 types of mare basalts were identified, while only 1 group was recognized in the previous study. The stratigraphy constructed from the spectral analysis indicates that the mare deposits tend to become younger in the northern maria, including Serenitatis and Crisium, and older in the southern maria, including Tranquillitatis, Fecunditatis, and Nectaris. According to the relationship between the titanium contents of the mare units and their stratigraphy, the titanium content decreases with time in the early stage but increases toward the end of volcanism in the Serenitatis and Crisium region, while it increases with time but finally decreases in the Tranquillitatis and Fecunditatis region. In connection with the distribution of mare basalts, a large amount of high‐Ti mare basalts are found in Mare Tranquillitatis, especially in the western part, while other maria are covered by low‐Ti basalts. The iron contents show a similar distribution to that of titanium.  相似文献

Abstract— Cumulate eucrite, noncumulate eucrite, and diogenite meteorites are considered to have come from the crust of one (or similar) parent asteroid. Howardites are regarded as regolith breccias of eucrites and diogenites, and polymict eucrites are regarded as polymict breccias of eucrites. These polymict breccias show many textural and chemical features. In order to gain a better understanding of the origin of polymict breccias and the origin of their components, we investigated four polymict breccias, Yamato (Y)-791439, Y-791192, Y-82009, and Y-82049 with a scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with a chemical mapping system, and by electron probe microanalysis (EPMA). We analyzed all pyroxene grains with chemical maps, classified them by chemical composition, and observed their chemistry and mineralogy in detail. The characteristics of pyroxenes suggest that the polymict breccias were generated by gathering locally ordinary eucrites and cumulate eucrites. The chemical-evolutionary features of the pyroxenes (such as homogenization, chemical zoning, and exsolution lamellae) suggest that there were at least two long annealing events and one short (or low-temperature) annealing event, separated by mixing events. Local heterogeneity on the asteroidal crust is also suggested.  相似文献
