Abstract:In this article,a method to determine the complete stress tensor by use of fault slip data in combination with experimental parameters of rock mechanics is elucidated;the direction and magnitude of recent tectonic stress in the Xianshuihe fault zone are determined by this method from a great deal of active fault striae data observed in the fault zone and the envelope of rock fracture determined experimentally for rock samples collected from the fault zone;and the applicability of the method and reliability of calculation results are discussed.
