Polarisation of type III bursts between 164 and 435 MHz: Structure and variation with frequency

We present the first observations of circular polarisation in type III bursts with spatial resolution in the range 164–435 MHz. We show that the degree of polarisation is in general neither constant nor uniform over burst extent, and increases with frequency. We discuss the observations and propose that they give access to the inhomogeneity of the coronal magnetic field and its variation with height.
