Partial molal volume calculations for the dissolution of aged amorphous silica in salt water and seawater at 0–2°C

Abstract:	Measurement of solubility as a function of pressure allows calculation of $3 V ?_{1}$ . Using this experimental approach, the best estimate of $3 V ?_{1}$ for the dissolution of aged amorphous silica in salt water or seawater at 0–2°C is ?9.9 cm³ mol^?1 (standard error = 0.4 cm³ mol^?1). This gives $V ?_{Si(OH)_{4}(aq)} = 55 ± 5 cm^{3} mol^{?1}$ , which compares well with other published values of $V ?_{Si(OH)_{4}(aq)}$ .
