Application of fault diagnosis method in earthquake prediction

Abstract:The development and the variation of the earthquake process is a very complicated one and affected and limited by many factors. The key of the accurate prediction is to set up a dynamic comprehensive prediction model based on the comprehension of the precursor characteristic and the attention of the variation with time of these factors. In this paper, we try to apply the fault diagnosis tectonic to earthquake prediction.The fault diagnosis tectonic is an applicable boundary science. The basic idea is to judge if the fault occur in the system and to determine where and when the fault occur and its level. Because the similar in the surveillance and the idea to diagnose the fault between the fault diagnosis tectonic and the earthquake prediction, it is significant to apply the fault diagnosis tectonic to earthquake prediction.It is well known that a lot of anomalous phenomena occur before a large earthquake. So this anomaly should be selected as the precursor and used to predict the earthquake based on the variation tendency of these precursors. Besides the affection of the earthquake to the precursors, they are often affected by many non-earthquake factors. So it is important to remove non-earthquake factors from them. These factors affected by the earthquake are considered as slow-variation fault occurred in dynamic system. The occurrence of the earthquake should be suggested as the final result of the fault development - the occurrence of the big accident. Therefore the fault information - earthquake information of the prediction factors - could be collected by the fault diagnosis methods and used to the prediction of the fault - earthquake prediction.
