Abstract:The flood- and sediment-routing model GSTANS of the U. S. Bureau of Reclamation has been tested and expanded. GSTARS is based on a concept which combines a send-twodimensional flow model with the theory of minimum energy dissipation rate such that the variation of channel width as well as the river bed elevation can be predicted efflciently.Several new features were added to the original version of the GSTARS to more accurately simulate the erosion process of an unlined channel downstream of a spillway during a spill. The case study demonstrstes that the newly enhanced GSTARS can accurately simulate the complicated channel adjustment process by a flood.
Keywords:Bank stability Channel geometry  Flood  Local scour  Meandering channel  Minimum energy dissipation rate  Numerical model  River Morphology  Sediment transport
