Straftigraphic division and correlation of the Late Paleozoic coal-measure rock in the datong-Ningwu Basin of Shanxi

Recent multiple classification in the field of stratigraphy requires to abandon the prin-ciples of classical universal stratigraphy obscured the conception between the litho--andchronostratigraphic units, and which generally makes out that the Penchi, Taiyuan andShansi Formations or the Boundaries between them beyond Xishan (the West Hills) aredefined or revised by fossil content. The author considered that those Formations mentio-ned above must be imposed restrictions on the lithostratigraphic category.Based on the homogeneity and steady of the lithological and lithophase features the author redivided the lithostratigraphic classification ofthe perno-carboniferous coal bearing strats in datong ningwu basin n shaxi and poing out that those units are ge-ological bodies in three dimensions crossed time line the same name units in different localities are not strictly synchronous so the the chronostratigraphic correlation is one of the most complex problems a probable correlation scheme is proposed in fig.3
