Abstract: | Complete solid solution between sillimanite and mullite is shown to occur when Fe3+, in the virtual absence of Ti, replaces AlVI. All members of the series adopt the sillimanite (Al, Si)IV ordering scheme in preference to the modulated structure typical of synthetic and titaniferous natural mullites. |
