| Abstract: | Summary Evaporation comparisons for Symon's evaporation tanks (6 feet square and 24 inches deep, sunk into the ground) and American A-type tanks as determined at 34 stations throughout South Africa are discussed. Recently a series of observations to investigate relationships between evaporation from Symon's tanks and that from large water surfaces in South Africa were carried out. The latter varied from 40 acres to 3,200 acres in size, with depths from a few inches to 131 feet. The techniques used in measurement are briefly described and results of the determinations presented. |
