Abstract: | Abstract The paper is concerned with the modelling of rainfall occurrence in continuous time. The Alternating Renewal Process is employed for the evaluation of probability distribution functions for total wet and dry periods over a homogeneous time interval (0, t). The derived general solution is simplified by assuming that the individual wet and dry intervals are random variables following an Erlang distribution, in particular an exponential distribution. Data on a continuous time scale from the Mikra Station in Greece are used to illustrate the proposed methodology. |
