Abstract: | The Voigt functions, so important in spectroscopy and neutron physics, are represented as generalized hypergeometric functions (G-functions) of two real variables. A system of partial differential equations for the Voigt functions is derived. By applying Hölder's inequality to an integral representation of the Voigt functions apparently not known in the literature until now, lower and upper bounds are obtained. Moreover, from this representation an asymptotic expansion of Voigt functions for large values of one variable is extracted. |
