Abstract:The paper presents an exploratory analysis of the geographical patterns of life expectancy at birth by sex in Poland. For the purpose of spatial statistical analysis the geographical variation of life expectancy is partitioned into two components: regional (global) trend and the local variation (or residuals). The spatial autocorrelations of the residuals from the trend surface analysis are examined using global and local statistics. The results indicate that there are statistically significant geographical clusters of high and low life expectancies for men and women in Poland.
