Abstract: | The permian Longtan Formation containing coal beds in northern Zhejiang is a set ofnearshore deposits which belong to alternate phases of marine and land beds. This paper dealswich the kaolinitic mudstone of lower plane of C2 coal bed of langtan Formation. It is rich in clayminerals which according to differential thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction, infraed spectroscopeand electron microscope are determined as kaolinite, 7 - halloysite associated wich quartz, siderite, montmorillonites and organic matters. Of those minerals, kaolinite is the most adundentclay mineral which is poorly crystallized or disordered. The author tends to belive that these clay minerals were polygenetic. They were mainly de-rived from terrigenous province and chemical deposit. Some may be products of diagensis and epi-genesis. 7 -halloysite can be regarded as prouducts of derivation from 10 -halloysite.The kaolinitic clay rocks are widely distributed in northern Zhejiang wich large reserves. Ac-cording the analysis on the lithological features and chemical compostions, it could be used as ma-terials for ceramic, plastics, refractory and rubber industries if the kaolinitic clay are beneficiatedappropriately. |
