Abstract:The hot spring waters in four hot spring hotels in Guangdong, China and their influence on the variation of indoor ra don levels were studied. Radon concentrations in hot spring water, inside bath room and outside bath room were measured by using RAD7 and NR-667A radon detectors. The results indicate that variation of indoor radon levels were influenced by many factors such as soil, building types, usage of hot spring water (bathing or not, bathing time long or short), and ventilation conditions. The variation of radon levels in closed unoccupied hotel rooms indicates that the soil Radon has very important influence on the indoor radon levels of the basement or ground floor of hotel rooms. For the bathrooms with spring water bathing activities, their average radon levels were 1-8. 3 times higher than those of the bathrooms without spring water bathing activities. Meanwhile, the average radon levels of bedrooms connected with bathrooms with spring water bathing activities were 1-8. 3 times higher than those of the bedrooms connected with bathrooms without spring water bathing activities. The indoor radon concentrations in some hotel rooms are much higher than the relevant standard. This could potential damage the health of hotel staffs. Therefore, some technical and management measures should be taken to decrease the radon inhalation exposure of those hotel staffs.
Keywords:indoor radon  hotspring hotel  influence factors  soil  ventilation
