| Abstract: | Oil ingested by mussels appears in the faeces and pseudofaeces but differs in composition from the oil to which the animals are exposed. It contains more heavy fractions and larger aromatics, and there is a shift of aliphatic hydrocarbons towards heavier alkanes and isoprenoids. There is evidence that these changes are the result of metabolic processes in the mussels. |
