Urban spatial expansion and traffic pulsation in Xuzhou

Based on the TM images and urban planning images,the authors made rational analysis on Xuzhou city spatial expansion from the aspects of growth intensity,center coordinates and other indexes by means of quadrant analysis built in GIS spatial analysis techniques.Then the authors made correlation coefficient matrix among urban spatial expansion and traffic pulsing and found out the changing laws among the factors.The results showed that during the year 1979 and 2008,the city expanded towards the east and the south and the city center moved towards southeast gradually influenced by the urban main streets,expressway,high-speed railway and other significant traffic constructions.The urban compact index was decreasing and the fractal index was increasing.The urban structure became more and more complex.
