Abstract:Based on the waveform data of the Xinjiang seismic network, 10 ML 4.1-4.8 aftershocks in the MS 6.6 earthquake sequence in Xinyuan and Hejing border area in June 2012 were analyzed and studied. The focal depth of the 10 aftershocks was calculated by sPn seismic phase and compared with the results from CAP inversion, simplex algorithm location, and Hyposat location. The focal depth calculated by using the sPn seismic phase has the best consistency with the CAP inversion results, and it is also in good agreement with the Hyposat location results. It is slightly inconsistent with the results of the simplex algorithm location. It is concluded that the focal depth calculated by the sPn seismic phase method is reliable and the method can be used to calculate the focal depth of earthquakes in xinyuan and Hejing border area.
