Abstract: | Geological (structure of orebody, Late Paleozoic paleotopography), mineralogical (mineral assemblages and age relations), and chemical data (REE patterns, Sr, 87Sr/86Sr, 34S values, fluid inclusions) have been compiled and reviewed for F-Ba vein-type deposits of the southern German Variscides (Black Forest, Odenwald Mts., Spessart Mts., NE Bavarian Forest) to determine their genesis. The clastic to volcaniclastic Permo-Triassic sequences unconformably overlying these basement rocks and the peneplanation during the Late Paleozoic have intensively influenced the concentration of F and Ba. In addition to syngenetic endogenous and exogenous fluorite barite accumulations, a third mode of formation called epigenetic unconformity related is proposed to have been the most dominant type of formation for most of these vein barites and fluorites in the southern part of the Federal Republic of Germany. |
