Abstract:Goldschmidt's fundamental data of geochemistry, in particular his values for the abundances of the elements and of the individual nuclear species, calculated from his observed elemental abundances, can be interpreted as having resulted from “primordial” nuclear reactions and subsequent cosmochemical processes. The compositions of meteorites investigated by Goldschmidt was shown to reflect this in a convincing manner. With this viewpoint in mind, it is possible now to understand, at least in principle, the origin of the elements. On the basis of Goldschmidt's analytical experimental data three individuals won Nobel prizes in the field of theoretical physics.
