Abstract:Spherical weathering has a wide range of development types and is closely related to people s production and life,but research on spherical weathering is relatively few.In order to further study its characteristics and formation mechanism,the authors conducted a systematic study on the characteristics and formation mechanism of sandstone spherical weathering in the Lower Cambrian Qiongzhusi Formation within the Micangshan structural zone by means of thin section identification,scanning electron microscope,X-ray diffraction,as well as major and trace element analysis.The research shows that the spherical weathering of sandstone in the Lower Cambrian Qiongzhusi Formation from the Micangshan structural zone is influenced by tectonic movement,climate,rainfall and other factors,and the core factors are the stratum lithology,chemical weathering and different weathering of different parts.The formation processes of weathering can be divided into three stages:the formation of the fractures and the division of rock strata,the formation of the nuclear sphere and the peeling of the edge weathered shell.
