Abstract: | Summary The linear regression equations, reflecting the relationship between the energy injection rate into the ring current and various combinations of geoeffective solar wind and IMF parameters during the main phase of a magnetic storm, have been derived. The highest values of the correlation coefficient (r>0·8) were obtained for the relationships between the energy injection rate F exp and the solar wind electric field, especially when the high-frequency part of its variations was taken into account (Ey and F mod ), and also for F exp vs F MUR , which was introduced by Murayama earlier.
