An imposed force summation method for non-linear dynamic analysis

A method of obtaining the response of a non-linear system is proposed, which involves imposing the solution upon the equations of motion for a linear system and solving using selected modes of vibration. Contribution from the remaining modes of the system is included in terms of their quasi-static response. The method is developed and illustrated with reference to a system with material non-linearity and special reference is given to the dynamic analysis of embankment dams.
