Abstract: | In this paper, by comparing experimental data on bow shock with MHD-relationships on a flat shock discontinuity, allowing for the presence behind the front of turbulent electrostatic oscillations and of an ion beam, an analysis is made of the nature of the “overshoot” of magnetic field (density) behind the front of a collisionless shock wave. It is shown that the large value of plasma compression in the overshoot region (, in excess of the maximum allowable value of density jump (, is attributable to the presence in the “overshoot” of a high level of lowerhybrid electrostatic oscillations with an energy density W ? nT. |
