Abstract: | Long-range source localization is shown to be affected by a mesoscale eddy whose realization is solely a cyclonic current (no thermal manifestation). The sensitivity of a matched-field type processor (known ocean) to an eddy is demonstrated, as well as its sensitivity to a mismatch between the parameters of the eddy and the processor assumptions. Optimum uncertain field processing techniques are used to overcome these sensitivities by incorporating uncertainties about the environment into the processor. These processors operate on data produced by a special 3-D ray tracer using actual sound speed data and two different models for eddy current structure |
