Properties of fly ash as a marine sediment
Authors:RN Bamber

Abstract:Large quantities of waste fly-ash from coal-fired power stations are dumped in the sea, where the ash settles on the sea bed. The physical and chemical characteristics of the ash have been assessed in relation to the marine benthic environment. The material acts as a fine mud substrate, of low porosity and permeability, chemically analogous to natural mud, but with no organic content for faunistic exploitation.
