Optimal thickness of soil between source and detector for different gamma-ray energies

Abstract:The gamma-ray transmission method has been used to study the optimal thickness of soil sample between source and detector for 279, 662 and 1173 keV gamma rays. A linear relationship between optimal thickness (d) and gamma-ray energy (E) is obtained: d = aE + K with the slope a = 0.032 and arbitrary constant K = 0.
