Tectonic Evolution of Tarim Plate and Its Surrounding Area Since Late Paleozoic

Since Late Plaeozoic, a series of collisional and amalgamational events have happened around Tarim plate. The collision of Tarim with Khasakstan-Junggar plate led to that the South Tianshan"re-opened oceanic basin" of Carboniferous, which was progressive deeper westward and h ad a passive Continental margin on the northwest edge of Tarim plate, upliftedat the end of Early Permian and the foreland basins in front of Tianshan was formed. During this time, intense geothermal events including a lot of basalts on the west Tarim, dark basic dikes in Bachu area and forrisite in Wagirtag suggest the crustal rifting and extension which pro-moted the intracontinental subduction northward of Tarim plate and the formation of the foreland basins. In Mesozoic, the activities of Tethys oceanic basins and the closing of them pushed the Qiangtang and Gangdesi blocks moving northward and amalgamation with Eurasian continent one by one. These events gave the strong influences on the sedimentation and the tectonic evolution of Tarim plate and its surrounding area. In Cenozoic, the Indian plate that collided with Eurasian plate continued to push northward, forming a series of thrusts, the Pamir tectonic syntax and today's appearences of Tarim and its surrounding area.
