| Abstract: | The present paper reviews our current understanding of the dynamical structure of the Kuiper belt and of the origin of Jupiter-family comets. It also discusses the evolutionary scenarios that have been proposed so far to explain the observed structure of the Kuiper belt population. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date. |
