Hydroxylamine formation in laboratory experiments on marine nitrification

As a part of studies on the production of dissolved and particulate organic matter in the decomposition of various biological materials, observations were also made on the chemosynthetic microbial process of nitrification. During the oxidation of ammonia to nitrate, hydroxylamine was detected and it seemed to be an unstable intermediate compound in the first phase of marine nitrification.
