| 摘 要： | In the geological history,there could be two kinds of geological macroprocessoccured on the Earth’s surface……the spreading of the sea floor and the growthof continent.There are two types of the continental growth.One is the union ofcontinents as a result of the collision of different plates,another is the expansionof continents by the formation of marginal sea.Four models have presented now to explain the mechanism of the formationof a marginal basin.1)The subduction of a spreading ridge.2)The thermal di-apirism.3)The"leaky"transform fault.4)The Oceanization or basaltizationThe author presumes that the marginal basin behind the are was formed by hea-ting, rifting and spreading of the lithosphere in the continental margin area whilethe oceanic slab was subducting under the continental crust.All the above men-tions concerned in the mechanism of the formation of a marginal basin can onlybe used to explain the origin of marginal basins,not to explain the evolution ofa marginal basin after it has been for
