Abstract: | Chlorophylls a and b, pheophytins a and b, pheophorbides a and b and pyropheophorbide a were identified in a Recent sediment (Priest Pot from Cumbria, U.K.) by laboratory preparation and structure elucidation by NMR and FAB-MS, and HPLC coelution with sedimentary extracts. Quantitative depth profiles revealed a steady decrease of the ratios of chlorophylls to pheophytins, and also a different but fairly constant a to b ratio for the pheophytins and the chlorins. |
