Abstract: | The nuclear region of the peculiar galaxy NGC 3256 has been studied spectroscopically in the visual domain of the spectrum. Its spectral characteristics indicate low excitation, high oxygen, and nitrogen abundances besides a comparative excess of N with respect to O and a rather low electron density. Emission line intensity ratios correspond to anHii region spectrum compatible with a star-burst nucleus.Visiting astronomer of CASLEO (Complejo Astronómico El Leoncito) at San Juan, Argentina.
