Abstract:Three reservoir clay minerals such as montmorillonite, kaolinite and illite were selected. Alkali consumption was investigated to define co-effect between these minerals and their corresponding mixtures under three amount ratios, solid/liquid ratios, and at different temperature conditions. Results show the following alkali consumption sequence for those mono-clay minerals montmorillonite(S)gt;kaolinite(K), illite(I). The alkali consumption increases with reaction term and temperature. The decrease of solid/liquid ratio leads to a larger alkali consumption meanwhile the alkali consumption for samples containing montmorillonite(SK,SI) increases linearly with montmorillonite amount, which is not true for kaolinite and illite.
Keywords:Clay minerals  Alkali consumption  Coeffect
