The Tertiary of the Hetao Basin and its biotas |

| Abstract: | The Hetao Basin lies at the bend of the Huanghe River area in central Net Mongol (Inner Mongolia) Autonomous Region, where the Tertiary strata are completely developed. During our comprehensive exploration of petroleum geology in this basin, we had analysed sporo-pollen, ostracods and charophytes totaling over 1300 samples. Based on vertical and horizontal distribution, the sporo-pollen may be divided into five assemblages. Foraminifers were first found in the Miocene.Dn the basis of newly found ostracods and sporo-pollen, the writers revise the geologic age of the Wulat Formation from the originally dated Eocene to Late Paleocene-Early Eocene. |
