Abstract:
In developed countries regional development issues have increased in importance at just that moment when manufacturing is steadily declining. This paper examines the role of industry in regional development by reconsidering the openness of regional economies and the nature of inter-industry linkages. It concludes that peripheral regions share the problems of peripheral nations in the capitalist world economy.
