Abstract: | At temperatures above about 1100° C degassed molten kimberlites were found to attack diamond, producing both graphite and metallic iron on the diamond surface. Using ordinary kimberlites in experiments performed at 1 Kb in a closed system, diamonds developed etch features (at temperatures above about 1000° C), consistent with attack by wet CO2, but no graphite or iron was formed on the surfaces of the diamonds. |
