| Institution: | Mark D. Varljen is president and principal hydrogeologist with Applied Hydrogeologic Research Inc. (1833 N. 105th St., Ste. 101, Seattle, WA 98133;markv@ahr.com). Prior to entering private consulting in 1992, Varljen completed five years of research on ground water sampling methodologies at the Illinois State Water Survey. He holds a B.S. degree in earth science from Penn State University and an M.S. degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In addition to his consulting duties, Varljen continues his participation in the research community, particularly in the area of field methodologies, and the analysis of factors affecting the (real or apparent) spatial and temporal variability of ground water contaminants. |
