Notes on the temporal and spatial scales of climatic changes

Summary An investigation of the relationship between climatic change at various temporal and spatial scales was conducted making use of correlation and coherence analyses applied to observed monthly and annual global mean temperature data. Results indicate that the spatial scale does not change in spite of an increase in the temporal scale. Furthermore, a certain pattern, suggesting a teleconnection, was often observed in the scatter diagrams of correlations and coherence squared related to distance. We speculate that this is due to the constancy of the general circulation of the atmosphere for temporal scales.With 5 Figures
