Abstract: | The observed capture rate for solar neutrinos in the 37Cl detector is lower than the predicted capture rate. This discrepancy between theory and observation is known as the ‘solar neutrino problem’. I review the basic elements in this problem: the detector efficiency, the theory of stellar (solar) evolution, the nuclear physics of energy generation, and the uncertainties in the predictions. I also answer the questions of: So What? and What Next? |
