Abstract: | The shock-metamorphosed quartz exhibits thermal luminescence (TL) with maxima at 365 nm, 470 nm and 610–680 nm. By electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) analysis E1 type electron centers and hole centers have been found which originate from vacancies including those from the substitution of Al3+ and/or Fe3+, for Si4+. The EPR and TL spectra may be interpreted mainly in terms of vacancy type defects associated with dislocations in the crystal structure of quartz. |
