A METHOD OF MAKING ZERO-POINT CORRECTION

The ordinary method of making zero-point correction of a surveying instrument, e.g. of a gravimeter, contains an inherent assumption that the drift varies linearly with time. when this is not the case, the ordinary method is not free from arbitrariness and therefore involves an inaccuracy. A method is proposed which starts from a plausible assumption and leads to a formula applicable to any kind of drift variation with time. The method is definite and agrees with the result of the ordinary method when the time variation of the drift is linear.
