Transition current systems in the Earth’s and Saturn’s magnetospheres

Transition current systems can be generated in the Earth’s magnetosphere at a simultaneous sudden change in the solar wind dynamic pressure and IMF northward turning from an almost horizontal direction. The distribution of the field-aligned currents in the transition current system depending on the IMF components has been calculated. The conditions of formation of transition current systems in the Saturn’s magnetosphere and possible manifestations of these systems in the high-latitude ionosphere have been considered. The obtained results have been compared with observations.
