Abstract: | A one-dimensional model for the evolution of a near-surface layer during daytime heating is suggested. The paper considers how upward thermal fluxes and the Coriolis force affect the heated layer's vertical structure. Experiments have shown that atmospheric heat and impulse are localized in the heated layer, and that the earth's rotation causes deviation of the surface current velocity and reduction of its amplitudinal variations which do not seem to be controlled by the wind speed and depend on the layer's heat budget. Experimental data provide good agreement with model calculations.Translated by V. Puchkin. |
