Abstract:The problem of placing an upper bound on the mass of a non-rotating neutron star is investigated under minimal assumptions on the equation of state above nuclear densities. In particular causality (dp/dq<1) is not assumed in this region. An upper bound of about five solar masses is found.Supported in part by the National Science Foundation.
