Poland's maritime economy in the-post WW II period

Summary The author presents Poland's postwar achievements in the maritime economy, and describes the development against the background of tendencies in the world economy. Basic figures are presented concerning the volume and structure of foreign seaborne trade, ports, merchant fleet, shipbuilding and the fishing industry. Poland's increasing role in the operation of the sea is emphasized and attention called to the need for a reasonable approach to the utilization of the riches of the World Ocean. This matter is stressed because of the danger for unsettling the ecologic balance by excessive pollution of the sea.
