摘    要:IntroductionInearthquakeandengineeringseismology,fortheexplanationofthehigh-frequencycontentsinearthquakegroundmotion,itisoftenassumedthatalargeearthquakeiscomposedofmanysmallereventswithavarietyofsizes(Frankel,1991).Thesesmalleventscomefromtheruptureoftheasperitiesalongtheearthquakefault,showingthecharacteristicsoffractals(Aki,1981).Thisworkingassumptioncanexplainsomeoftheimportantpropertiesofseismicsourcesuchasthehigh-frequencyfall-offofsourcespectra.Ontheotherhand,however,beinglimitedbyobs…

Abstract:Slip distribution of the 1979 Imperial Valley, 1989 Loma Prieta, 1992 Landers, 1994 Northridge, and 1995 Kobe earthquake shows a piece-wise Gutenberg-Richters law. For small slips, the b-value is near to 1; while for large slips, the b-value is larger than 1.
