Abstract: | Detailed observation of the microstructural features of 11 fault gouge and 3 fault breccia samples collected from Tianjingshan-Xiangshan
fault zone has revealed that fault gouge can be classified into 3 types: flow banded granular gouge, foliated gouge and massive
gouge. The determination of the shape preferred orientation (SPO) of survivor grains in fault gouges indicates that the foliated
gouge displays a profound SPO inclined to the shear zone boundary, similar to theP-foliation; flow banded granular gouge displays a SPO parallel to the shear zone boundary, while massive fault gouge and fault
breccia display a random SPO. All these fault gouges fall in different fields of shear rate ternary diagram. |
