The contribution of 14C dating to a better understanding of the POM behaviour in estuaries

Abstract:The discordance between radiocarbon dates and dates obtained with 210Pb and historical data in cores recovered from tidal flats of the Gironde estuary, is explained. According to the results, it appears that the deposited Particulate Organic Matter (POM), taken in account by 14C dating, is mainly pedologic in origin and relatively old, while other dating technics provide information on the sedimentation pattern itself.
